Understanding how Sight-Reading in Cut Time (2/2) works | What are Degrees and Intervals? | Habits of the Seasoned, but Un-educated player of the Guitar |

Sight-Reading in Cut Time requires an understanding of both duration and feel in 4/4 time. Once a musician knows the feel of durations in 4/4 (Common-Time), then cutting the feels in 4/4 down to 2/2 is nothing more than cutting the time in half. Daniel Kazez wrote a fantastic book on learning rhythm called Rhythm Reading: Elementary through Advanced. If you need help with general feel and timing run through my Rhythm Duration Bootcamp Program. | Degrees and Intervals are the building blocks of basic Music Theory. Run through Michael Miller's classic theory book The Complete Idiot's Guide to Music Theory. Michael covers all of the basics with an easy to understand approach. | Players who've got a number of years under their belt should definitely have a serious look at Howard Roberts Praxis System Guitar Compendium. With Vol. #1 and Vol. #2 any Intermediate player will learn a mountain of solid information to bring the learning curve up another level. |
